Dental Implants

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are replacement tooth roots. Implants provide a solid foundation for removable or permanent teeth.

Benefits of dental implants

Implants don't come loose as a denture does. Dental implants also benefit oral health because they do not have to be anchored to other teeth, like bridges. Unlike dentures, implants provide stability to the jawbone without damaging teeth.

Do I need implants?

If you have lost one or more teeth, dental implants may be an appropriate treatment option for you. The ideal candidate for dental implants is in good general and oral health, has an adequate bone structure in their jaw to support the implant, and has healthy gum tissues that are free of periodontal disease.

The implant process

At our offices, we will create a custom treatment plan depending on your specific condition and the type of implant required.

The process involves the following:

We will take multiple x-rays, study models and a 3D scan of your jaw to determine the health of the bone and underlying tissues.

Implant insertion
The implant is inserted under local or general anaesthesia. A temporary restoration may be inserted in the front of the mouth to ensure a natural-looking smile.

After approximately one week, we will remove the stitches. The healing stage lasts between six weeks and a few months, depending on the patient's medical situation. During this time, oral hygiene is crucial.

Crown insertion
After the patient has healed, and the implant is integrated, we will take an impression for the crown. The crown is then manufactured by the dental laboratory. In areas where more than one tooth needs replacing, a bridge is then manufactured.

Implants require special care and regular cleanings from a dentist. Cleaning visits should be done every six months, and on these visits, we will give further instructions on cleaning.
