What is a filling?

Fillings are a way of restoring a tooth damaged by decay and bringing it back to its normal function and shape.

How are fillings inserted?

Firstly, your dentist will remove the decay. The cavity will then be filled with a suitable material.

When do I need a filling?

Only your dentist can detect if you have a cavity that needs a filling- this is why regular check-ups with your dentist are crucial. During a check-up, we use a small mirror to examine the surfaces of teeth.

Which type of filling is best?

At Naeem Kachwee, we will do an assessment to determine which type of filling is best for you.

The type of filling you receive will be determined by:

  • The extent of the damage
  • Whether you have allergies to certain materials
  • Where inside your mouth the filling is required
  • The cost

We offer the following types of fillings:

Composite resins
These are matched to be the same colour as your teeth and therefore used where a natural appearance is desired. Composites may not be the best material for large fillings as they may chip or wear over time. They may also become stained from coffee, tea or tobacco.
Porcelain fillings
These are produced to order in a lab and then bonded to the tooth. Porcelain fillings can be matched to the colour of the tooth. Porcelain fillings are more expensive than silver or composite fillings, but they offer the best aesthetic results.
