Tooth Whitening

Everyone dreams of having sparkling white teeth. You can easily brighten your smile by visiting us for a whitening treatment or purchasing one of our at-home treatment options.

What is tooth whitening?

Tooth whitening is a common cosmetic procedure in dentistry, used to make teeth brighter. Whitening lightens teeth and helps to remove unsightly stains and discolouration. Teeth whitening is a very popular dental procedure because it can significantly enhance the way your teeth look. Tooth whitening is not a once-off procedure; it needs to be repeated to maintain a brighter colour.

Types of tooth whitening

In the dental chair
If you're considering whitening your teeth, we strongly recommend that you consult a dentist first, before trying it at home. A qualified dentist will provide you with the best whitening options for you and supervise a safe treatment plan to avoid complications.

At Naeem Kachwee Dentistry, we provide professional whitening solutions in as a little as an hour. The procedure involves the application of a tooth whitening gel containing between 25% to 40% hydrogen peroxide. We then aim a special heating lamp at your teeth for three 20-minute intervals, with reapplication of the gel in between intervals. We use a protective barrier during the whitening procedure to keep your lips, gums, and tongue away from the whitening gel, so it stays in place on your teeth. For optimal results, we usually give you whitening trays moulded for your teeth so you can follow-up at home with safe bleaching solutions.

Home whitening kit
These are custom made trays that are used at home for 30 minutes a day to whiten teeth. The gel is put into the custom trays, which fits onto your teeth. This is a very safe and economical way to whiten your teeth and results can usually be seen after the third day.

Combination of dental whitening and home whitening
We highly recommend receiving the at-office dental whitening treatment, followed up with a home kit used for two weeks. The combination of these two methods will help you achieve optimal results.

Why get tooth whitening?

During eating and drinking, a thin coating forms on the teeth's enamel and picks up stains. Tooth enamel also contains pores that can carry stains. Teeth whitening can greatly enhance the colour of your teeth, making you smile with more confidence. In just one hour, our whitening procedure can whiten your teeth an average of eight shades lighter.

Aftercare

If you want the results of your tooth whitening to last a long time, you need to be aware of your food intake. Certain foods and drinks discolour your teeth.

For 48 hours after tooth whitening, try and avoid drinking tea and coffee, and eating acidic foods such as lemons, oranges, and other foods. Also, being meticulous with your oral hygiene, by regularly brushing and flossing your teeth will help keep teeth stain free.
